The Casa Portuguesa is a traditional beach house with a modern twist, thanks to a refurbishment in 2023. Less than 200m from the wonderful Roche beach, it gets a small sea view from the two main bedrooms and their terraces on the first floor, and you will be lulled to sleep by the sound of breaking waves.
The refurbishment included a 9x4m pool, perfectly placed for maximum sunlight and neatly adjoining the indoor and outdoor living areas. The terraces are tiled with traditional Portuguese calçada, buganvilla abounds, the umbrella pines create some welcome dappled shade on the lawn, and it all makes for the perfect beach holiday setting.
Accommodation is on two floors: the ground floor contains the sitting/dining area, kitchen, one bedroom and separate bathroom; and the first floor is home to the other four bedrooms and three bathrooms (two en suite).
A 400m walk will take you to the local shop, pharmacy, a couple of bars and restaurants, and a childrens’ playground. Roche also has its own tennis and padel courts and five-a-side football pitches. In the summer months, there are several beach bars/restaurants to choose from within walking distance, some of which are now staying open all year. A 5-minute drive will then provide you with a far larger selection of both bars and restaurants. You could spend a wonderful holiday here without a car, and just hire bikes; but, assuming you will have a car, it’s 15 minutes to Conil, 20 minutes to the hill-top village of Vejer-de-la-Frontera, 30 minutes to Cadiz, 40 minutes to Tarifa and Jerez, and 90 minutes to Seville, all of which are well worth visiting.
