Make yourself at home in this 2+ acre Lake Buchanan retreat located directly on the shoreline of the lake and featuring a private boat ramp. Less than 1/2 mile from Burnet County Park, this beautiful home offers a soothing ambiance that will instantly become your “Happy Place.”
There's plenty of space for everyone to lay their head (see note below regarding Sleeping Arrangements). The master bath features a jetted bathtub and ADA-accessible shower and toilet. The open-concept floor plan offers more-than-ample room for everyone to unwind, boasting a large living area and sunny alcove with tons of seating, a regulation size pool table for the adults, a play area with toys/games for the kids, a dining area and a fully furnished kitchen that includes a combination conventional/convection oven with warming drawer for all your cooking needs.
Outside, the list of amenities goes on and on: 2 kayaks, 1 canoe, 1 Sunfish sailboat (lessons available), plenty of life jackets of various sizes (no infant life jackets), fishing gear, a 2-person seigning net, a golf cart, 3 fire pits (one serving as a designated smoking area - no pun intended), 2 flagstone patios, 1 tiled patio, outdoor lighting galore, 2 separate sets of Bluetooth speaker systems, 2 grills (1 propane, 1 charcoal), 2 hammocks, 1 porch-style lawn swing, 1 “saucer” tree swing, 1 outdoor ping pong table, 2 corn hole sets, a badminton/volleyball/lawn pickleball set, a croquet set, and many other lawn games. Or if you must work, why not work in the serenity of this beautiful, oak-shaded setting?
This property was the home of Dr Sidney Young, former mayor of Killeen. Dr Young and his father bought the land with a small house on it in the late 60’s. Over the years they enjoyed many treasured times with large family gatherings and events - Dr Young always referred to it as his Happy Place. He retired here in 2000 and rebuilt and expanded the house to its current footprint in 2002.
The Young family still continues to use the home for their own family gatherings; they have made sure it is a place where their family enjoys getting together, with fun activities for everyone (especially the grandkids!), and now they have decided to open it up and share it with others. Theirs is a "mission" of hospitality - they are not in this to make a fortune (you will find that the rates are very reasonable); rather, they truly wish to share their home with others - they offer this property with large, warm family gatherings in mind. The house is a little older now and has the kinds of things you would expect (a few sticking doors here and there, some chipped trim here and there, etc.), but overall, it is a beautiful space. And the location, amenities and activities on-property are simply unsurpassed in the area!

Note regarding Sleeping Arrangements:
The house sleeps 6 “privately” (i.e. 3 bedrooms, 2 people/room), but there are additional beds in most of the bedrooms, as well as the common areas, increasing the total available sleeping space to 20 if shared space is acceptable.

Note regarding Pets:
Although up to 4 dogs are welcome (with NO pet fee), no animals are allowed inside the house (with the exception of service animals, which must be pre-approved.) There is a large, fenced kennel area that includes a shed with a window A/C unit and a portable heater. You are of course welcome to keep your dogs with you while you are enjoying outdoor activities (bear in mind, the property itself is not fenced), but they are not allowed inside the house at any time, and they must be kept in the kennel overnight.
Note regarding Boats:
Don’t have a boat of your own? We have several boats available for rent (1 Bayliner bowrider, 1 Kayot pontoon boat, 2 jet skis coming soon), in addition to the 2 kayaks, 1 canoe and 1 Sunfish sailboat that are included in your stay. Rental boats are available at a low flat rate for your entire stay, regardless of the length of your stay. Boat rentals are handled separately from VRBO property rentals. If you are interested in renting a boat, let us know when you inquire about the property.
Note regarding Pre-arranging Events:
Do you have any special requests of any kind? Just ask - we might be able to accommodate them. For example, if you want to have a cookout but you don’t trust your skills at grilling for large groups, we may be able to handle the cooking for you.
Note regarding Dock:
The property has a 130-foot wooden pier that is currently not usable; plans for repair/replacement are under consideration.
