Directly across the street, which ends at a cul-de-sac, is access to the Peconic River. The property is part of North Haven Manor, originally the estate of Nathaniel Hawthorne's son Julian. All of the houses, including this one on Mashomuck, have been renovated or totally rebuilt during the last two decades. Two residents-only beaches are available offering bathing and mooring rights. It's a terrific spot for an evening of clamming or crabbing. Sunrises and sunsets are never lovelier here in this small peninsula village surrounded by Shelter Island Sound and Sag Harbor Cove. Right across the bridge, downtown Sag Harbor features shops, restaurants, music, theater, and more along its historic main street.
