If you prefer to explore the area with your own car, you should follow the 110 km long Mergelland route. Burgundy's Maastricht with its cozy shopping facilities is only 25 km away. Within 1 hour by car you are also in larger cities like Brussels, Liège, Aachen, Cologne or Düsseldorf. You should not forget the smaller town of Valkenburg, the famous castle ruins and the marl grottos are absolutely worth seeing.
